Pentwater Civic
Band Concerts
at the Village Green
Thursday Evenings at 7 pm
The
Pentwater Civic band was organized in 1947 by Jerome "Cook"
Richmond, Arthur "Bug" Squire, Bud and Kenny Sims,
and Les Bailey. The band probably has the most geographically
diverse membership imaginable. Members come from the surrounding
communities, across the state, and from virtually everywhere
in the United States. Each concert is an impromptu assemblage
of local musicians and vacationing tourists who look forward
to joining the group each Thursday evening from late June
to late August. The postage stamp size Village Green park
teems with an audience of nearly one thousand who have come
to hear the familiar strains of marches and standard summer
band fare. Though the Pentwater Civic Band has no formal
rehearsals or even a conductor it has found a successful
niche the the world of community bands; music for the sheer
fun of it. |
